About Cayo Levantado
Cayo Levantado is a small island inside Samaná Bay, reachable only by boat. It has a white-sand beach, shallow water and shaded areas under the palms, and it is the classic stop for anyone spending a few days on the peninsula.
The island is open to visitors from 9:00 in the morning to 5:00 in the afternoon. We arrange the departure inside that window, based on the package and the size of the group.
Cayo Levantado is also known as Bacardi Island, after a rum advert that was filmed here. There is a hotel on the island, the Cayo Levantado Resort, which has nothing to do with us: our trip is the boat from the Santa Bárbara pier and the day on the island’s beach.

What to bring
- Sun protection, a hat and sunglasses. On the boat and on the beach there is nowhere to hide from the midday sun
- Swimwear on, and a towel. The boat is not a changing room
- Water, and some cash in pesos in case you buy something on the island
- A waterproof bag for your phone and documents. The boat splashes
- A light layer. On the way back, in the afternoon, it gets cooler on the water
